Thirteen years is a long time to wait for a sequel. After two delays, a messy leak and a steady stream of rumours, Grand Theft Auto VI finally has a launch date it appears ready to keep: November 19, 2026. It arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game was first pencilled in for 2025, then moved to May 2026, and then to its current slot. Take-Two's CEO has since backed the date, and with pre-orders open and a launch trailer out, there's no sign of another slip.
With under three weeks to go, here is what's solid, what's still guesswork, and how to get ready.
Pricing is straightforward. The Standard Edition costs $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition $99.99. Anyone who buys or pre-orders either one by November 20 also receives the Vintage Vice City Pack, and digital pre-orders add a free month of GTA+. If you're still on the fence, that bonus window is the real deadline to watch.
Preloading begins on November 12, a week ahead of release, with the files locked until launch day. Rockstar hasn't said exactly when the game unlocks, so keep an eye on your console store's countdown.
Rockstar hasn't revealed the install size. A figure of around 210GB is doing the rounds, but it isn't official. Until the store pages show the real number, the safest plan is to clear a generous amount of space now rather than start deleting games mid-download. If your internet is slow or capped, start the preload as soon as it opens.
Rockstar's main look at the game so far is the 26-minute Extended Look released on August 27. It introduces the two leads, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, and sets the story in the state of Leonida, where a reimagined Vice City stands in for Miami.
More detail came from issue 430 of Edge magazine. According to its report, the map is roughly twice the size of GTA 5's. Police now build a profile of you from your vehicle, outfit and the company you keep, which means switching cars and clothes carries real weight. A new criminal rating grades your conduct anywhere from "Professional" to "Irredeemable," and some stolen cars are fitted with trackers, so a quick getaway is no longer guaranteed.
A game this big attracts plenty of noise, and several claims remain unconfirmed.
The loudest is a PC version. GamesBeat reported on October 13, citing four anonymous sources, that a PC release is planned for early 2027. Rockstar has said nothing, and its official announcement covers consoles only. The timeline would echo GTA 5, which reached PC about a year and a half after its console launch, but a familiar pattern isn't a confirmation. Claims that the game would stream to PC through Xbox Cloud Gaming have also been denied.
The leaks are a separate matter. A group calling itself Cyberleek posted gameplay clips and map images on August 18, and a longer clip of about 25 minutes appeared on October 8. Rockstar apologised to fans and called the situation heartbreaking, while Take-Two moved to have the material taken down. Its authenticity hasn't been verified, and reports suggest it comes from an older build, so it may not reflect the finished game. It also contains spoilers, and any site offering a "GTA 6 download" is not legitimate.
