Another year, another EA Sports FC drop. But before you roll your eyes and assume it's just roster updates and a shinier menu, FC 27 is shaping up to be one of the more substantial upgrades the series has had in a while and if you're the kind of player who's been quietly frustrated with how the last couple of entries felt, this one's worth paying attention to.
Launching on 25 September, FC 27 is bringing three big shifts: a new social space called the Grounds, a properly reworked gameplay engine, and a Career Mode that finally treats transfers like something more than a shopping cart.

Think of the Grounds as EA's answer to the hangout-hub trend other sports games have been chasing — except this one leans into actual football culture instead of feeling like a mall. It's split across zones inspired by street-football scenes from the UK, France, and Argentina, and it's built to be explored, not just passed through on your way to a match.
You'll find playable arenas tucked around the map, each hosting its own twist on small-sided football. One mode drops random bonus-goal zones mid-match. Another borrows dodgeball rules — get hit by the ball, lose a life. It's silly in the best way, and it gives EA's existing Clubs mode (the one where you control a single player in casual matches) an actual home instead of a menu screen.
Last year's game made a real push to fix responsiveness, but it introduced its own headaches. Most notably defensive interceptions that would ricochet unnaturally back into attackers' paths. EA says the interception system was rebuilt from scratch to fix that, and early hands-on time backs it up — those weird bounce-backs are gone.
The bigger story is how much manual control has been handed back to the player. Defensive positioning, jockeying, and tackling are less AI-managed and more on you. Crossing works the same way now; you're responsible for direction and weight instead of the game smoothing it out. Meanwhile, attacking AI has actually gotten smarter, with off-ball runs that support proper build-up play and forwards that stay onside far more reliably.

FC 27 launches 25 September on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC, with a scaled-down version also available on last-gen consoles. Whether you're chasing Ultimate Team cards, building a dynasty in Career Mode, or just want to mess around in the Grounds with friends, this is shaping up to be the most complete FC has felt in a long time.
